Liverpool International Tournament

Beginning in 2002 - one of the most remarkable stories in British tennis - how some of the world's leading players were brought to Liverpool to play in a tournament in a public park!

The rest is history - through the vision of Anders Borg and support from Liverpool City Council the tournament has gone from strength to strength and attracted past and present legends of the game. It's now firmly established as a major event on the annual calendar

Cities Tennis Programme

Between 1994 and 2004 the award winning Cities Tennis Programme - the UK's first year round inner city programme operated in Liverpool, based at the Wavertree Tennis Centre. It followed examples of similar schemes in the USA in providing a 'safe passge' for young people through to meaningful adult life.

The programme introduced over 5000 children to tennis and produced numerous performance players and coaches from its ranks as well as gaining a national and worldwide profile

Liverpool Parks Tournament

Now over 60 years old this remains the largest local authority amateur event in the UK with over 20 courts in use in Calderstones Park during the week. It has acquired cult status amongst Liverpool's tennis community offering events for all ages and standards.

Liverpool v New York Inner City Challenge

Between 1996 and 2000 Liverpool's Cities Tennis Programme forged a link with the New York Junior Tennis League resulting in a series of Inner City challenge matches at the Bronx International Tennis Centre and Wavertree Tennis Centre

Newcombe Tennis Academy Link

Since 1996 over 30 young players from Liverpool have been able to experience 3 month placements with the John Newcombe Tennis Academy in San Antonio, Texas. Most of the current leading coaches in Liverpool have been involved. A junior touring team from the Academy has visited Liverpool on 5 occasions returning in 2008

World Grassroots Challenge

This was an annual event for teams from all over the world from Inner City schemes first contested in 1985 in Brixton, London and last held in 2000. In 1995 the Liverpool team of Anthony Hardman and Iain Thomas won the event in London to become World Grasroots Champions. Three years later Liverpool represented by David Hardman and Simon Pearson were narrowly runners up in an event held at the US National Tennis Centre at Flushing Meadow, New York.
