The Tradition-ICAP Liverpool International Tournament is the highlight of the city's tennis calendar with legenadary tennis kings Mats Wilander and Michael Stich set to be the star attractions at this year's event.

The pair, who have ten Grand Slam wins between them, will play in the legends element at the eighth Liverpool International at Calderstones Park which runs from June 17-21.

Fast rising ATP stars Mardy Fish from the USA, who has already won twotour titles this year, and Robin Söderling of Sweden, will be top seeds in the men’s singles event which will also feature two-time Liverpool finalist Vince Spadea (USA).

Stich, 40, a former World No 2, who famously beat fellow German BorisBecker in straight sets in the 1991 Wimbledon final, will be in action every day at Calderstones and is the eighth SW19 Champion to play at Liverpool.

Playing for Germany, Michael won both the Davis Cup and the Hopman Cup in 1993 and in 1992 won the men's doubles titles at both Wimbledon (with John McEnroe) and the Barcelona Olympic Games (with Boris Becker). Michael said: “I have heard a lot about Liverpool over the years and all the good work they have done to develop tennis. l am very much looking forward to playing the event.”

Mats Wilander, a former World No. 1, will play on the final day. The seven times Grand Slam singles winner, with three French Open, three Australian Open, and one US Open title to his name, was the last man to win three grand slam titles in a year (1988) before Roger Federer.

Having twice won the Australian Open when it was played on grass the Swedish ace is one of only four men, with Jimmy Connors, Andre Agassi, and Rafael Nadal, to have won Grand Slam singles titles on grass, hard, and clay courts. Wilander won his fourth Grand Slam singlestitle at the age of 20, the youngest man in history to have achievedthat feat.

At the other end of the spectrum England's hottest prospect, Liam Broady, is to star in his first senior tournament and could face Australian teen sensation Bernard Tomic, at what is the UK's only major pre-Wimbledon grass court tennis tournament, north of London.

In the women’s singles Portuguese 15-year-old starlet Michelle de Britto is already signed up to appear at the tennis tournament staged in one of the finest public parks in England.
